TASCAM GigaEditor 4 Manual 109
Temp directory. e directory where the Editor wil l save temporary les. For e xample, if you
make extensive edits to a .gig le and then issue the Save com mand, the le is rst assembled in
the temp directory and only the n moved to its nal loc ation. Samples exported for editing are also
written to this directory. If you leave this eld blank, the Editor will use the default Windows
temp folder.
Audio editor. To make changes to the audio of the sam ples, you need to use an exter nal audio
editor. is s etting will choo se which audio editor to launch when you use th e Edit audio
command on a sample.
Middle C is. Sets the method of numbering octaves everywhere in the editor. By default, middle
C (MIDI note 60) is referred t o as C4. You can cha nge this to make the edit or's numbering agree
with your other MIDI so ware or hardware.
Note that the octave numbering in eect may also eect the "Guess from lename" option when
importing samples (see below).
Velocity splits for ma nually created re gions. Denes the initial structure of regions t hat you
create manually by right-clicking in the keyboard display and selecting “Create region”.
Unity note for imported .wav les. Tells the Editor how to set the unity note for imported
samples, when no unity note is de ned in the .wav le its elf. You can choose to simply d efault
such samples to middle C, or you can tell the editor to look for the unity note in the le name,
expressed as either a MIDI note nu mber (“Piano 61.wav”) or a s a note name (“Piano
C#4.wav”).
e import procedure is fairly clever about interpreting le names, but to avoid confusion you
should set the pitch value o by spaces (“Piano G5” not “PianoG5”). When using pitch names
with accidentals, note that only sha rps are recognized (“Pian o G#5” not “Piano Ab5”). Also note
that the interpretation of pitch names is inuenced by the octave number selected for middle C
(see above).
Some wave editors insert a default unity note whi ch may not be co rrect. If you wa nt the pitch
expressed in the le name to override any setting inside the le, check Use the lename even if the
.wav le contains a dierent unity note.
