To use this feature, you must visit the Preferences dialog (Edit-Preferences on the main menu) and spe cify
either the note-number or note-name method. You will get the best results when the pitch indication is set
o by spaces, and when there ar e no numbers el sewhere in th e sample name. For the note-nam e method,
only sharps (“#”) are recognized, not ats.
Creating a Region

regions, in this section we will d o it manually.  is is the least convenient way to create regions but it is
sometimes useful. F or example, dru m kits oen do n’t lend thems elves to the mo re streamlined ways of
creating regions, b ecause each drum (snare, kick, h i hat, etc.) is eectively a di erent instru ment and may
require a dierently structured regio n.
Creating a few regions manually will also help familiarize yo u with the concept of mappi ng samples, before
we introduce the mo re advanced way s of mapping li ke the Instrument Wizard.
To create our rst region we’ll use the Region Window, show n above. For a full discussion of this window’s
features, see page 130.
1. Place the mouse under the note where you want
to create a region, and right-clic k. In this example,
we’ll create a region on Middle C.
2. Choose New region from the menu.
