Dynamic Expression Filter (DEF)
e Dynamic E xpression Filter (DEF) provides a phase corre cted, 7th order, morphing lter for adding
expressiveness before and aer s ustaining note-on events.  is lter can a ccurately and continuously
morph frequency res ponses of veloc ity dynamics e ven aer note-o n events have oc curred.  e lter is
driven by either a standard midi continuous controller such as t he Mod Wheel, note velocity , a lter
envelope, or a combination of all three. e morp hing response coecients can be uniqu e for each note
region and sub-region, making it possible to creat e extremely detailed lter prol es. In other words, the
DEF can make a sample sound a s if it were played at di erent intensities, allowing for real-time crescendos
and diminuendos o f a sustaining note.
Note: the DEF works w ith 24-bit sampl es only
Some of the DEF settings, incl uding enabling and disab ling the lter, are de ned globally for an i nstrument.
ese global DEF sett ings are found on the ‘Dy namic Expression Filter’ tab of the Instrument Properties
dialog. To open the Instrument Properties dialog, right cl ick on a loaded instrument i n the Editor and select
‘Properties’.

settings of the lter coecients in the region articulations (see DEF Filter Coecients section
