TASCAM GigaEditor 4 Manual 147
Keyboard. Keyboard (also ca lled keyswitch) control allows changing from on e split to anoth er by striking
otherwise unused notes on the MIDI keyboard. is is o en used for orchestral i nstruments that have a
large number of articulations, when it would be dicult to switch accurately using a wheel or pedal type
controller.  e area of the k eyboard used fo r switching is de ned in the I nstrument Properti es dialog.
Round Robin, Random. ese dim ensions switch samples automatically each time you p lay a note. Round
Robin progresses through the splits in order, while Random triggers the splits randomly.
Round Robin across keyboard.  is variant of the Round Robin dimension advances to the next split
when a key is struck in any region. (e basic Round Robin dimension described above advances only
when a key is struck in its own r egion.) In the case where th e number of splits in this d imension varies
across the keyboard, the new rule uses a modulo addressing technique.
Smart MIDI processor. is special dimension is used in c onjunction with iMIDI rul es such as the Pattern
Alternator, Repetition Mode, and Legato Mode. Logic in th e iMIDI rule will determine whi ch split plays at
any given time.
Dimension Split Examples
A two-way mod wheel split.
A two-way sustain pedal split.
A four-way keyboard switch split. Playing keys in
the keyswitch region will select among the dierent
articulations.
A complex instrument using eight dimensio ns at
once. Since each dimensi on has two splits, any o f
256 dierent samples may be triggered (2 x 2 x 2 x 2
x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2).
