GL-1020

The TOSHIBA controller used to connect digital copiers to a

 

network. Also referred to as the device or printer.

Group sort

Sorting multi-page, multi-copy output into sets or groups. For

 

example, if a 3-page original document is sorted into five sets, the

 

output is five copies of page 1, five copies of page 2, then five

 

copies of page 3.

Gutter

The size of the inner margin between facing pages of a bound

 

document. The minimum value is 0 mm and the maximum is 150

 

mm.

Hardware address

The unique address assigned by the manufacturer of a network

 

interface card. Also known as the Media Access Control (MAC)

 

address.

Hole Punch

An optional finishing unit that punches binder holes in pages after

 

printing.

HTTP

HyperText Transfer Protocol. The Internet standard that supports

 

information exchange on the World Wide Web (WWW). HTTP

 

provides users with transparent access to the Internet.

Image overlay

An independent document file containing text, graphics, charts,

 

tables or any other document element, that is merged with

 

another document during printing.

Infrastructure

A type of wireless network in which clients connect to a wired

 

Ethernet LAN through access points.

IP

Internet Protocol. The IP part of the TCP/IP communications

 

protocol. IP implements the network layer (layer 3) of the protocol,

 

which contains a network address and is used to route a message

 

to a different network or subnetwork. IP accepts “packets” from

 

the layer 4 transport protocol (TCP or UDP), adds its own header

 

and delivers a “Datagram” to the layer 2 data link protocol. It may

 

also break the packet into fragments to support the maximum

 

transmission unit (MTU) of the network.

IPP

Internet Printing Protocol. A protocol that enables you to send

 

print jobs to a remote printer across an Internet or Intranet
