Ethernet I/O Blades | Port Assignment |
8.9Port Assignment of the LAN Switch Blades
For each of the ten server blade slots, connections to a maximum of 6 ports of the onboard LAN controller and to 2 ports of the optional Gigabit Ethernet daughter card are available in the BX600 S3 basic unit. With
server blades, the number of connections increases accordingly.
The LAN I/O blade in the NET1 slot is connected to port A of the onboard LAN controller of the installed server blades. The LAN I/O blade in slot NET2 is connected to port B of the onboard LAN controller. In the same way, the LAN I/O blades in slots NET3 and NET4 are connected to port A and B of the gigabit Ethernet daughter cards.

The installation of two LAN I/O blade in NET1 and NET2 (or NET3 and NET4) enables redundant LAN connections to be provided for the relevant LAN con- trollers of the server blades.
VCAUTION
●LAN switch blades must always be installed in slots NET1 and NET3 first. This ensures that port A of the relevant LAN controller is connected if redundant LAN connections are not used.
●To provide fibre channel functionality, fibre channel I/O blades must be installed in slot NET3 and/or slot NET4, see page 101.
Asynchronous balanced mode of Ethernet I/O blades and fibre channel I/O blades in slots NET3 and NET4 is not permitted.
