Establishing Terminal Sessions with a PC

Establishing Terminal Sessions with a PC

Prerequisites

Before you can use a PC to establish a terminal session with the access server, you must:

1Configure the device and port characteristics as described in Chapter 9.

2Enter the commands to set up SLIP operating characteristics as shown in the Example: Configuring a PC As a Terminal and SLIP Host, in this chapter.

3If you want to authenticate a user, make sure that a terminal emulation program is installed and running on the PC. The terminal emulation program needs to be invoked after a connection is established so that the user can respond to prompts for authentication.

Refer to Managing Dial-Up Access Security with AUTOLINK and AUTOLINK Authentication in Chapter 22 for more information if you have enabled AUTOLINK authentication.

Once the terminal emulation program is running and the user is authenticated, the PC can access hosts on the TCP/IP and LAT networks through the access server by using the CONNECT command.
