3.Insert the upgrade diskette into the diskette drive.

4.Power-on the computer.

5.At power up, the system will make a beep sound and will show no video, as it starts reading from the floppy disk.

6.The system will continue making a series of beep sounds followed by a few seconds of silence. The whole process should last for a few minutes.

7.When the boot block recovery process is finished, the system will make a final long-lasting beep sound.

8.Remove the floppy disk, power off the computer (keeping power button pressed for around 5 seconds), move the recovery jumper back to the normal position and replace the cover.

9.Perform a Flash/BIOS update to re-enter machine type and serial number data using the procedure provided below:

Flash/BIOS Update process to follow after performing a boot block recovery process:

1.After replacing the cover, insert the upgrade floppy disk into the disk drive and turn on the computer. The IBM Logo will appear.

2.When the Flash Update Utility appears, select the country/keyboard, then press enter.

3.Since the serial number data has been deleted, you will be prompted to enter it. Press Y to update the data.

4.Type the 7-digit Serial Number of the computer and press enter.

5.You will also be prompted to update the Machine Type information of your system. Follow the onscreen instructions to do so.

6.After Serial Number and Machine Type information has been entered, the BIOS will be updated.

7.During the update process, the following message will pop up: BIOS ROM file is older than (or same as) BIOS ROM Image. Continue anyway? (Y/N)Press Y to continue.

8.When finished, remove the floppy disk and re-start the system.

9.When re-starting, the system will prompt a message indicating that an unauthorized CMOS change was detected. Press F1 to go to Setup.

10.Once in the setup utility, go to the EXIT tab and select the option Save and Exit the Setup utility.

11.A Setup confirmation window pops up. Press Y continue.
