10.Use the SMW to download firmware to the new controller to match the version number shown in your storage subsystem profile. (Refer to your printout.) After 15-20 minutes, the SMW reports a download failure. Click OK to ignore the error warning and instructions and proceed with the following step.

11.Use the EMW to remove the RAID controller from the management domain, and again add the new controller using the IP address assigned to the new controller by the IP server.

12.View the storage subsystem profile and confirm that the NVSRAM and controller firmware versions match the versions shown in your storage subsystem profile printout.

13.Use the EMW to remove the RAID controller from the management domain.

14.Use the procedure described in “Turning off the storage server” on page 67 to power off the storage server.

15.Reinstall each drive in the slot from which it was removed.

16.Power on the storage server, using the procedure described in “Turning on the storage server” on page 66.

17.Use the EMW to add the RAID controller back into the management domain using the original IP address (refer to your printout).

18.Verify that the RAID controller is accessible.

19.Continue with 24 on page 101 in the RAID controller replacement procedure.

Replacing the battery in the RAID controller

Each RAID controller contains a rechargeable battery that maintains the data in the cache memory for three days without power to the unit.

Important: If you are replacing the battery in a DS4100 single-controller storage server, complete the following steps before beginning the replacement procedure:

1.Schedule down time for the battery replacement, because the disk will not be available during the procedure.

2.Complete any necessary server preparation tasks.

3.Save the configuration storage subsystem profile.

Note: Before any planned system shutdown or after any system additions, removals, or modifications (including logical drive creations, storage partitioning definitions, hardware changes, and so on), save the storage subsystem profile as explained in the DS4000 Storage Manager guide for your operating system. Save the profile in a location other than the logical drives created for the DS4100 storage server.

4.Stop I/O to the storage server.

5.Unmount any mapped LUNs from the storage server.

6.Power down the DS4100 single-controller storage server, as described in “Turning off the storage server” on page 67.

Use the following procedure if the DS4000 Storage Manager client instructs you to replace the battery because the current battery has failed or is nearing its expiration date. You can also use the DS4000 Storage Manager client to check the status of the battery.

1.Check the DS4000 Storage Manager client online help for instructions on battery replacement procedures. If you are using write-cache mirroring, this
