Important:

1.The serial interface ports are intended to be used by service technicians to perform diagnostic operations on the storage server. Incorrect use of the serial port can result in loss of data access and, in some cases, in loss of data.

2.Do not connect the DS4100 in a public LAN or public subnet. Use a local private network for the DS4100 storage server and the management station Ethernet ports.

3.To ensure proper EMI shielding, always use quality shielded serial cables.

Connecting secondary interface cables to a DS4100 base storage server

Connect a pair of Ethernet cables from the storage-management station to the Ethernet ports for Controller A (located on the left) and Controller B (located on the right) on the back of the storage server. Figure 52 shows the location of the ports.

Connecting secondary interface cables to a DS4100 single-controller storage server

Connect an Ethernet cable from the storage-management station to the Ethernet port of the controller.

Connecting expansion units (base storage server only)

Attention: The minimum DS4000 EXP100 ESM firmware level (9554 or later) is required before attaching a DS4000 EXP100 to the DS4100 base storage server. Refer to the section “Replacing a failed hot-swap ESM” in the IBM TotalStorage DS4000 EXP100 Storage Expansion Unit Installation, User’s, and Maintenance Guide for details on how to identify ESM firmware levels.

You cannot connect expansion units to the DS4100 single-controller storage server. If you are using the DS4100 single-controller storage server, skip this section. Please contact your IBM support representative for information about the availability of such support in the future.
