The administrator enters umsUpgradeAll command at the main ofﬁce.

The ﬁrmware version on the Normal Mode Branch Ofﬁce IP Phone is

compared to the ﬁrmware policy of the main ofﬁce. If the ﬁrmware is the

same as the main ofﬁce, no ﬁrmware update is required. If the ﬁrmware is

different, the IP Phones are redirected to the Branch Ofﬁce.

The ﬁrmware ﬁles are transferred from the main ofﬁce to the Branch Ofﬁce

by FTP.Once the ﬁles have successfully been transferred to the Branch

Ofﬁce, the umsUpgradeAll command is invokedon the Branch Ofﬁce. All

IP Phones waiting for the ﬁrmware are automatically upgraded and returned

to the main ofﬁce.

The ﬁrmware retrieval mechanism for the Branch Ofﬁce TPS retrievesonly

ﬁrmware ﬁles it ﬁnds missing.

It does not compare the list of ﬁrmware on the Branch Ofﬁce TPS with

the main ofﬁce TPS to determine whether the Branch Ofﬁce has the

latest ﬁrmware, nor does it perform any automatic compare and update

operations. The Branch Ofﬁce TPS only receives ﬁrmware ﬁles when the

umsUpgradeAll command is issued on the main ofﬁce TPS.When an IP

Phone registers with a TPS,the TPS checks the ﬁrmware version in the IP

Phone. If the ﬁrmware version differs from that required by the Signaling

Server (or the Media Card) and the ﬁrmware upgrade policy requires an

upgrade, the ﬁrmware is downloaded to the telephone. The telephone

reboots after the ﬁrmware download is complete and registers with the

TPS again.

When the IP Phone ﬁrmware in the TPS isupgraded, the IP Phones that

registered with the Call Server before the upgradeare not affected. The

system administrator must executethe CLI command umsUpgradeAll

to download the ﬁrmware to all registered IP Phonesthat do not have

the latest ﬁrmware ﬁles. However, ﬁrmware download is automatic forIP

Phones that register to the TPS after the upgrade.

umsUpgradeAll

Firmware download does not happen when Internet Telephones register to

the LTPSby a Virtual Ofﬁce Login or Branch Ofﬁce redirection to the Main

Ofﬁce. Instead, Branch Ofﬁce Internet Telephones are redirected back to

the Branch Ofﬁce LTPSfor ﬁrmware upgrade. This redirection occurs only if

the umsUpgradeAll command is issued from the Main Ofﬁce LTPS,and

the currentﬁrmware version does not match the Main Ofﬁce LTPSﬁrmware

policy.doesnot match the main ofﬁce TPS ﬁrmware policy.

If an IP Phone is in use when the umsUpgradeAll command is issued,

the call is not interrupted. Its ﬁrmware version is checked against the main

ofﬁce TPS ﬁrmware policy,and if there is no match, the IP Phone is ﬂagged,

then redirected to the MG 1000B TPS when the call is completed.
