Sending and receiving text and multimedia messages
You can use the Messaging application to
send and receive brief text messages
(SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS).
Creating and sending a text message
Each text message can have up to 160
characters. You can send a message of
more than 160 characters, but the
message may be split into several
messages. If you send a text message to
an email address, the email address is
deducted from the 160-character count.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Before you use your smartphone to
send or receive messages, consult your
wireless service provider for pricing and
availability of text messaging services.
Make sure that your phone is on and
that you’re inside a coverage area (see
Turning your phone on).
1Press Messaging .
2Select SMS\MMS.
3Press Menu (right softkey) and select
New > SMS.
4Enter the recipient’s name, mobile
phone number, or email address:
Enter the first letters of the recipient’s
first or last name, the first and last
initials separated by a space, or the

You can send and receive text
messages even while you are on a phone call.
This is easiest when using a hands-free
headset or the speakerphone.
