Brief ProceduresThe Self Testsuse internal routines to confirm basic functionality and proper
adjustment. No test equipment is requ ired to perform these test procedures.
The Functional Testsutilize the probe-compensation output at the front panel as
a test-signal sourcefor further verifying that the oscilloscope functions properly.
A 10X probe, such as aP 5050, is requiredto perform these test procedures.
Self Tests
This procedureuses internal routines to verify that the oscilloscope is adjusted
and functioning properly.No test equipment or hookups are required.

Prerequisites Poweron the oscilloscope andallow a 20 minute warm-up before
initiating this test procedure.
1. Verifythat internal diagnostics pass: Perform the following substeps to
verify passingof internal diagnostics.
a. Display the System diagnostics menu:
HIf the oscilloscopeis in toolbar mode, click the MENU button to put
the oscilloscope into menu bar mode.
HPull down the Utility menu and select Instrument Diagnostics. . . .
This displays the diagnosticscontrol window.
b. Run the System Diagnostics:
HFirst disconnect allinput signals from the instrument.
HClick the Run button in the diagnostics control window.
c. Wait:The internal diagnostics do an exhaustive verification of proper
oscilloscope function. This verificationmay take several minutes. When
the verificationis complete, the resulting status will appear in the
diagnostics controlwindow.
d. Verifythat no failures are found and reportedon-screen. All tests should
pass. If any failures occur, you can use the GPIB command DIAG:RE-
SULTS:VERBOSE? to query for details on the errors.
