HSet the trigger system to trigger on the positive slope of the
waveform before proceeding to the next check.
HPress the TriggerSOURCE button to set the trigger source to CH 1.
HClick Vertin the toolbar. Click Termination 50 Ω.Click Close.
HDisconnect thehookup installed in step 1.
4. Confirm that the trigger system is within sensitivitylimits (full bandwidth):
a. Hook up the test-signal source:Con nect the signal output of a high-fre-
quency sine wavegenerator to CH 1 through a precision 50 Ωcoaxial
cable. Totest some TDS models, a high frequency (>1 GHz) generator is
required;see footnote 1 in Table 2--1on page 2--19.
b. Set the Horizontal Scale:Set the Horizontal SCALE to 400 ps (500 ps
for TDS5054BE).
c. Display the test signal:
HSet the generatorfrequency to full bandwidth as follows:
TDS5032B, TDS5034B 350 MHz
TDS5052B, TDS5054B, TDS5054BE 500 MHz
TDS5104B 1 GHz
Note: For the TDS5054BE, set the instrument to E.T.mode.
HSet the test signal amplitudefor approximately five divisions
on-screen;then fine-adjust the generator output until the CH 1
Amplitude readout indicatesthe amplitude is 500 mV. The readout
may fluctuatearound 500 mV.
HDisconnect the leveling head at CH 1 and reconnect it t oCH 1
through a 5X attenuator.Check that a stable trigger is obtained.
d. Repeat step 2, substeps b andc only, for the full bandwidth selected.
HPress the TriggerSOURCE button to toggle it to CH 1.
e. Display the test signal:
HSet the generatorfrequency to 100 MHz.
HSet the Horizontal SCALE to 10 ns.
HRemove the 5X attenuator and reconnectthe cable to CH 1.
HSet the generatoramplitude on the screen for 7.5 divisions.
HFine-adjust the generatoroutput until the CH 1 Amplitude readout
indicates theamplitude is 750 mV.
