For example, you could use 10.10.10.1 as the IP Address Offset. If you had a network with 2 NICs on each node, and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, you would end up with the following heartbeat IP aliases:

Node A:

10.10.10.1

10.10.11.1

Node B:

10.10.10.2

10.10.11.2

These addresses will show up when you run AIX commands such as netstat.

Note: The clverify utility does not check the interfaces or subnet requirements for a heartbeat over IP aliases configuration because they use a separate address range.

Monitoring the HACMP Cluster

Log files allow you to track cluster events and history. The /usr/es/adm/cluster.log file tracks cluster events; the /tmp/hacmp.out file records the output generated by configuration scripts as they execute; the /usr/es/sbin/cluster/history/cluster.mmddyyyy log file logs the daily cluster history; the /tmp/cspoc.log file logs the status of C-SPOC commands executed on cluster nodes. You should also check the RSCT log files.

HACMP provides the /usr/es/sbin/cluster/clstat utility for monitoring a cluster and its components. The clstat utility reports whether the cluster is up, down or unstable. It also reports whether a node is up, down, joining, leaving, or reconfiguring and the number of nodes in the cluster. For each node, clstat displays the IP label and IP address of each network interface attached to the node and whether that interface is up or down. See the clstat main page for additional information.

If clstat is run on an X Window client, a graphical display appears. The clstat command and the –a flag can be used on an ASCII display on an X-capable machine.

Error Notification and Monitoring

Several technologies are available to monitor the DR550 and report errors.

DS4000 Storage Manager e-mail and SNMP alerting are available. The Storage Manager’s management information base (MIB) is provided on the Storage Manager 9.12 (or 9.15) CD that is shipped with the DR550. Installing just the MIB will not affect the 9.12.65 version of code. Please

do not install any other version of SM Client code on top of the 9.12.65 version already installed.

AIX and HACMP SNMP alerting are available. Standard AIX practices for error notification or forwarding of system messages are documented in the AIX System Administration manuals.

HMC electronic problem reporting

This section describes how to set up the Hardware Management Console (HMC) for electronic problem reporting through the local modem.
