Attention: Because the Hardware Management Console of the DR550 is not connected to a local area network, you cannot use all electronic problem reporting methods of a normal HMC. Hence you have to be careful when reading HMC documentation or setting up your HMC.

The following networking connections are available for you to be able to take advantage of electronic services such as reporting hardware problems and other server information:

￿Connection between the Hardware Management Console and the IBM eServer p5 520 server(s)

The DR550 is shipped with a dedicated connection between the console and the IBM eServer p5 520 server(s). There is one direct connected Ethernet adapter in the HMC for each IBM eServer p5 520 server.

￿Connection between your company and your service provider.

This connection is the one that enables you to report hardware problems and other server information to your service provider. In case of the DR550, the connection is established through a local modem attached to the Hardware Management Console.

The next sections describe how to set up your server to use the service tools for your operating environment:

Setting up your HMC to connect to your service provider

You must set up your HMC service environment with the following procedure:

1.Log in to the HMC of your DR550 with the user hscroot. You will find the starting point for all the configuration tasks in the Navigation Area of the HMC, under Service Applications.
