Back Up and Restore Configuration
Youcan save the router configuration settings to a diskas a binary file. You can also restore the
settingsfrom the file at a later time. Saving and restoring the router configurationlets you restore
the routerto working order if the configuration information in the router is lost or damaged.
Youcan also use the configuration file to configure a new router of the same type if it becomes
necessaryto replace the router.
NETGEAR highly recommendsbacking up your router configuration after the router is
functioning.You can perform the backup and restore operationsthrough the browser or by using
an FTPprogram. The browser procedure is described in “ConfigurationFile Management“ on
page 6-5.The FTPprocedure is described in the following section.

Backing Up and Restoring the Configuration Using FTP

Toback up or restore the configuration file over the LAN, you must have an FTPclient program.
Windowsincludes an MS-DOS FTP client program that can be accessed from an MS-DOS
prompt. OtherFTP client programs are available through many softwareretailers and shareware
sites.
Toback up or restore the configuration:
1. If you aresending a configuration file to the router, first rename it to rom-0.
2. Establishan FTP connection to the LAN IP address of the router.
No login nameis necessary. The password is the current Manager password.The factory
defaultpassword is 1234.
3. Select binary (not ascii) transfer mode.
4. Use your FTPprogram to get (back up) or put (restore) thefile named rom-0 in the
router.
