Point-to-Point
Protocol PPP.A protocol allowing a computer using TCP/IPto connect directly to the
Internet.
RFC RequestFor Comment. Refers to documents published by the Internet

RIP See Routing Information Protocol.
router Adevice that forwards data between networks. An IP router forwards data
based on IP source and destination addresses.

NamingService WINS.Windows Internet Naming Service is a server process for resolving
Windows-basedcomputer names to IP addresses. If a remote network
containsa WINS server, your Windows PCs can gather information from that
WINSserver about its localhosts. This allows your PC s to browse that remote
networkusing Network Neighborhood.
