PREPARING FOR MONOGRAMMING, EMBROIDERING, AND QUILTING

1.Lower the feed dogs by setting the Feed Dog Position Switch to the Down Position as shown on page 18.

2.Set the Pattern Selection Dial to the appropriate stitch setting for the project.

3.Draw the lettering (for monogramming) or design (for embroi- dering and quilting) on the surface of the fabric.

4.Stretch the fabric between embroidery hoops as firmly as possible with the underside of the fabric on the bottom of the inside hoop.

5.Remove the presser foot and presser foot holder. Attach the free-motion quilting foot (see page 58).

6.Place the work under the needle and lower the presser foot lever.

7.Pull the lower thread up through the work at the starting position by turning the handwheel and make a few holding stitches.

8.Grip the hoop with the thumb and forefingers of both hands while pressing the fabric with the middle and third fingers and support- ing the outside of the hoop with your smaller fingers.

MONOGRAMMING

1.Select the Zigzag Stitch and a width of 3-5.

2.Sew, moving the hoop slowly along the lettering at a constant speed.

3.Secure with a few straight stitches at the end of the last letter.

EMBROIDERING

1.Select the Straight Stitch and a width of 3.5(center).

2.Stitch the outline of the design by moving the embroidery hoop.

3.Fill in the design alternating from the outline of the design to the inside and from the inside to the edge of the outline until the design is completely filled in. Keep the stitching close together.

4.Secure with a few Straight Stitches at the end of the design.

FREE-MOTION QUILTING

1.Select the Straight Stitch and a width of 3.5(center).

2.Sandwich a piece of quilt batting between 2 pieces of fabric.

3.Sew, moving the layers slowly and consistently in a decorative motion to quilt the layers together.

4.Secure with a few Straight Stitches at the end of the stitching.

NOTE:

A long stitch is made by moving the embroidery hoop rapidly and a short stitch is made by moving it slowly.
