5Add the following entry to the /etc/printcap file: local_print_queue_name[description_of_printer]:\

:lp=:mx#0:rm=printer_IP_name:\ :rp=remote_print_queue_name:\ :sd=path_to_this_queue’s_spool_directory:\ :lf=path_to_this_queue’s_log_file:

For a description of these parameters, see “Getting UNIX Users Started Using the Printer,” earlier in this chapter.

6Create the spool directory that you specified in step 5: mkdir path_to_this_queue’s_spool_directory chmod 775 path_to_this_queue’s_spool_directory

7Try printing by using this command:

lpr -Pprinter_queue_name filename

Note that there’s no space between -Pand printer_queue_name.

What to do next

The printer is now set up on your TCP/IP network. If you want to install any options, see Chapter 5.
