Sometimes printing the first page takes longer than I expect.

The printer automatically goes into an energy-saving mode after it’s been idle for a while. When you print while it’s in this mode, the printer takes about three minutes to warm up before it can print the first page.

The printer administrator can adjust this feature by using the Apple Printer Utility on a Macintosh computer (see Chapter 2) or the Apple Printer Utility for Windows on a Windows computer (see Chapter 3).

IBM PC or compatible troubleshooting

If you are using the printer from an IBM PC or compatible computer, use this section for troubleshooting tips.

A message on the screen says the printer can’t print.

Try the following steps:

mMake sure that the printer is turned on.

mCheck the network or parallel cables.

mMake sure that the PostScript Printer Driver has been installed as described in Chapter 7.

mYou must send PostScript to the printer. PCL won’t work, and nothing prints.

Nothing is printed; no paper comes out of the printer.

Try the following steps:

mMake sure the printer is turned on.

mIf you’re using Novell NetWare 3.x, make sure banner pages are disabled.

mSend only PostScript files to the printer; do not send straight text or PCL files.

mCheck the “List of Printers” box to see that your printer is selected. See Chapter 7 for details about installing and selecting the printer driver.

mTry printing the document again, but choose Download PostScript Error Handling in the Printer Setup PostScript Options dialog box.
