Physical and Functional Description of Router

The Cisco XR 12404 router supports up to 8 chassis in a one standard 7-foot

(2.15 meter) rack and has the following key features:

Route processor (PRP-2)—The primary route processor is installed in it’s own dedicated slot. A redundant route processor can go in any line card slot. See the “Route Processor” section on page 1-3for information.

Line cards—The card cage contains 4 hot-swappable card slots. The router can accommodate up to three OC-192 line cards (or 2 line cards if redundant route processors are installed). See the “Supported Line Cards” section on page 1-13for information.

Consolidated switch fabric card (CSF)—Switch fabric, alarm, and clock schedule functions are located on one board. The CSF card has a switching capacity of 10 Gbps. See the “Consolidated Switch Fabric Card” section on page 1-15for information.
