Glossary of Terms
A4 sizeA standard paper size used in Japan and other countries. Paper is 210 x 297 mm (8.25 x 11.6 inches).
ASCIIThe acronym for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. ASCII is a set of 256 codes (numbered 0 to 255) used to communicate information between a computer and another device such as a scanner.
Automatic separationThe image processing method to detect the difference between text and photos and choose the thresholding accordingly. Automatic separation allows the scanner to switch between line mode and half tone mode in one pass.
Automatic start modeA mode that the scanner starts to read by the command from the host machine.
BitThe smallest unit of information in computer memory. A bit is a single digit, either a 1 or a 0, in the binary numbering system. Eight bits equal one byte.
Technique for producing halftone images representing the entire grayscale using two pixel levels black and white.
dpiDots per inch.
