C Printer memory and expansion

Overview

This appendix includes:

Determining memory requirements

Installing memory and fonts

Checking memory installation

Saving resources (permanent resources)

Installing EIO cards/mass storage

The printer has two double data rate (DDR) memory DIMM slots for upgrading various features.

To add more printer memory, DDR memory DIMMs are available in 16, 32, 64, 128, and 256 MB, for a maximum of 512 MB.

To increase flash memory cards, available in 16, 32, and 64 MB. Unlike standard printer memory, flash memory cards can be used to permanently store downloaded items in the printer, even when the printer is off. The printer supports Type 1 and Type 2 flash memory.

To add flash memory-based accessory fonts, macros, and patterns, use the appropriate

DDR DIMM.

To add other flash memory-based printer languages and printer options, use the appropriate

DDR DIMM.

Note

Single in-line memory modules (SIMMs) used on previous HP LaserJet printers are not

compatible with this printer.

You might want to add more memory to the printer if you often print complex graphics or PS

documents, print with the optional duplex printing accessory, use many downloaded fonts, or

print large paper sizes (such as A3, B4, or 11 x 17).

The printer has two EIO slots for expanding printer capabilities:

One or more network cards.

A mass storage device, such as a hard disk.
