Replacing a battery
Each RAID controller in the DS3200 Storage Subsystem contains a rechargeable battery that maintains data in the cache memory for 3 days without power to the unit. The cache battery is the only type of battery in the DS3200.
Use the following procedure if the DS3000 Storage Manager software instructs you to replace the battery because the current battery has failed. You can also use the DS3000 Storage Manager software to check the status of the battery. Because
The DS3200 storage subsystem controller cache battery timer is set to indicate when the battery is 2 years old. When the battery reaches 2 years of age, it does not mean that the battery has failed; but the battery might not be capable of maintaining cached controller data for up to 3 days in the event of a subsystem loss of power.
Attention:
1.If you are also removing the memory cache DIMM, do not start with this procedure; instead, follow the instructions in “Replacing a controller” on page 66.

To replace a battery unit, complete the following steps.
1.Use the DS3000 Storage Manager software to print a storage subsystem profile.
2.Read the safety information that begins on page xi and “Best practices guidelines” on page 6.
