Configuring the Printer Driver54

You should configure your printer driver settings via the printer device properties and
document defaults properties for your typical print jobs and use your application’s
printer setup method for print jobs that require special, less freque ntly needed printer
settings.
Because Windows NT remembers the configuration changes you make to the driver,
reinstalling the driv er does not restore the factory default configuration.
Five ta bs appear in the magicolor 2200 DeskLaser Properties windo w through the Start
menu: General, Ports, Color Management, Scheduling, Sharing, and Security. The tabs
and a summary of the options f ound on each are as follows:
General—Allows you to name t he printer, specif y a locati on, spe cify a driver to be
used, install a new or updated printer drive r, use a separator page between documents,
specify a specialized print proces sor/data type, and print a test page. See your Win-

Ports—Lists the available ports (under Ports), the associated port monitor (under
Description), and a comma-delim ited list of printers that use the port (under Printer).
Allows you to add, delete, or confi gure por ts. It also al lows the printer to get set ting
and status information from other printing devices, and enables printer pooling (print-
ing to two or more identical printing de vices through one logical printer). See your

Color Management—Allows you to s elect the colo r profile associated with your
print er o r allow the opera ting system to m ake t he selecti on for you. S ee you r W in dows

Scheduling (Windows NT 4.0) or Advanced (Windows 2000)—Allows you to con-
figure the print er for availability, set spooli ng inf ormation, and defi ne default docu-
ment printing priority. See your W indows docu mentation.
Sharing—Allows you to share the printer and ins tal l alternate drivers. See your Win-

Security—Allows you to modify the permissions to limi t access on the printe r, vie w
or set auditing information, or view or take ownership of the selected item(s). See
