Configuring BGP Filtering with Route Maps
Within BGP, route maps can be used to control and to modify routing information and to define the
conditions by which routes are redistributed between routing domains. See the “U sing Rout e Maps to
Redistribute Routing Information” section on page 32-73 for more information about r oute maps. Each
route map has a name that identifies the route map (map tag) and an optional sequence number.
Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to use a route map to di sab le next-ho p
processing:
Use the no route-map map-tag command to delete the route map. Use the no set ip next-hop ip-address
command to re-enable next-hop processing.
Step11 bgp default local-preference value (Optional) Change the default local preference value. Th e
range is 0 to 4294967295; the default value is 100. The
highest local preference value is preferred.
Step12 maximum-paths number (Optional) Configure the number of paths to be added to
the IP routing table. The default is to only enter the best
path in the routing table. The range is from 1 to 8. Having
multiple paths allows load balancing among the paths.
Step13 end Return to privileged EXEC mode.
Step14 show ip bgp
show ip bgp neighbors Verify the reset by checking information about the routin g
table and about BGP neighbors.
Step15 copy running-config startup-config (Optional) Save your entries in the configuration file.

In an inbound route map, set the next hop of matching rou tes to
be the neighbor peering address, overriding third-party next hops.
In an outbound route map of a BGP peer, set the next hop to the
peering address of the local router, disabling the next-hop
calculation.
Step4 end Return to privileged EXEC mode.
Step5 show route-map [map-name] Display all route maps configured or only the one specified to verify
configuration.
Step6 copy running-config startup-config (Optional) Save your entries in the configuration file.
