Installing the Cooling Shroud

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.

1Align and press the cooling shroud down on the system board. See Figure 3-7.

2Replace the system-board assembly. See "Installing a System-Board Assembly" on page 62.

3Reconnect the system to its electrical outlet and turn on the system, including any attached peripherals.

Removing the Heat Sink

1Turn off the system, including any attached peripherals, and disconnect the system from its electrical outlet.

2Remove the system-board assembly. See "Removing a System-Board Assembly" on page 61.

3Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shroud" on page 63.

WARNING: The heat sink may be hot to touch for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow the heat sink to cool before removing it.

CAUTION: Never remove the heat sink from a processor unless you intend to remove the processor. The heat sink is necessary to maintain proper thermal conditions.
