COMSPHERE 3800 Series Modems ± Model 3830
asynchronous | A data transmission that is synchronized by a |
transmission | transmission start bit at the beginning of a |
| character (five to eight bits) and one or more stop |
| bits at the end. |
AT command set | A group of commands, issued from an |
| asynchronous DTE, that allow control of the |
| modem while in Command mode. All commands |
| must begin with the characters AT and end with a |
| carriage return. |
AT prefix | A prefix issued before every AT command (except |
| A/ and +++) which identifies the DTE's data rate, |
| parity, and character length. |
autobaud | Modem automatically determines the |
| asynchronous DTE data rate when using AT |
| commands. |
automatic answer | A capability to respond to a call received over a |
| dial line. |
baud | A unit of signaling speed that is equal to the |
| number of symbols per second. This is not |
| necessarily the same as bits per second, although |
| the terms are frequently interchanged. |
Bisync | Binary Synchronous Communications. An IBMr |
| communications protocol that has become an |
| industry standard. It uses a defined set of control |
| characters and control character sequences for |
| synchronized transmission of |
| between stations in a data communications |
| system. |
bit | A contraction of binary digit. A bit, which is the |
| smallest unit of information, represents a one or a |
| zero (sometimes called mark or space). |
bps | Bits per second. Indicates the speed at which bits |
| are transmitted across a data connection. |
