C-2 Sun Ultra 60 Service Manual • August 2001
C.1 System UnitThe system unit is an UltraSPARCport architecture (UPA)-based multiprocessor
machine that uses peripheral component interconnect (PCI) as the I/O bus.
The CPU modules, PSYCHO+ ASIC (UPA-to-PCIbridge), and UPA graphics cards
communicate with each other using the UPAprotocol. The CPU modules and the
PSYCHO+ ASIC are UPAmaster-slave devices. The UPA graphics cards are UPA
slave-only devices.
The Marvin ASIC routes UPArequests packets through the UPA address bus and
controls the flow of data using the XB9+ ASIC. See FIGUREC-1.
