Connecting the printer

Printer ports

The printer is shipped with a SCSI port and a standard parallel port. The parallel port can be configured for bi-directional communications. The printer can also be configured with one optional PhaserShare™ network card. Refer to “PhaserShare network cards” on page B-6 for ordering information.

All ports and network protocols are simultaneously active. The printer accepts print jobs on a first-come, first-served basis.

1.PhaserShare card (optional)

PhaserShare Ethernet card supports Novell NetWare, EtherTalk and TCP/IP protocols.

PhaserShare Token Ring card supports Novell NetWare, TCP/IP and TokenTalk protocols.

PhaserShare LocalTalk/serial card.

2.SCSI (standard)

The SCSI port is used only for connecting an external hard disk or for connecting the Phaser Copystation. Refer to “Adding a hard disk for font storage” on page B-8 for more information on the SCSI port. Refer to “Phaser Copystation” on page B-7 for more information on the Phaser Copystation.

3.Parallel (standard)

Note Make all printer connections before you turn on the printer.
