Taking Measurements
The oscilloscope displays graphsof voltage versus time and can help
you to measure the displayed waveform.
There are several waysto take measurements. Youcan use the
graticule, the cursors, or an autom ated measurement.
Graticule
This method allows youto make a quick, visual estimate. For
example, you might look at a waveform amplitude and de termine
that it is a little more than 100mV.
Youcan take simple measurements by counting the major and minor
graticule divisions involved and multiplying by the scale factor.
For example, if you counted five ma jor vertical graticule divisions
between the minimum and maximumvalues of a waveform and
knew you had a scale factor of 100 mV/division, the n you could
easily calculate your pea k-to-peak voltage as follows:
5 divisions x 100mV/division = 500 mV.
