Using the Z Work Offset Update Feature

If you would like to calibrate all your tools to a fixed Z axis location on the machine, and then use the Z Axis Work Offset to shift all the tools to the top of a part, you must use the G141 Edge Finding cycle with Spindle Probing parameter updateTloOrWorkOffsetZAxis set to WorkOffset. Only Q4, Q5, and Q6 cycle parameters will affect the Z-axis.

First, use Q6 to set the spindle probe tool length offset to the fixed surface on the machine where all the tools are calibrated.

Next, use Q4 or Q5 on the top of the work piece or to where you want the Z zero to be located, to set the Z-axis work offset shift to that Z position.

Both, the tool length offset and the G53 work offset must be active before the Z part zero point will be correct. If either one of these is not active at the same time, a collision could occur.
