Router(config) interface fastethernet 1/1

2. To assign a VTP domain of coriolis to the interface, use the following command:

Router(config) mls rp vtp−domain coriolis

Warning This step must be performed prior to using any of the other MLS interface commands on the MLS interface. If this command is not used first, the interface will be placed in a null domain and will be unable to perform MLS functions.

Enabling MLS on an Individual Interface

After MLS has been placed into a VTP domain, you must enable MLS on each interface that is to participate in MLS. To enable MLS on an interface, perform the following tasks:

1.Enter Interface Configuration mode on the interface for which you want to enable MLS using the following command:

Router(config)interface fastethernet 1/1

2. Use the following command to enable MLS on the interface:

Router(config−if)# mls rp ip

Disabling MLS on an External Router Interface

To disable MLS on an interface, perform these tasks:

1.Enter Interface Configuration mode on the interface for which you want to disable MLS using the following command:

Router(config)interface fastethernet 1/1

2. Use the following command to disable MLS on the interface:

Router(config−if)# no mls rp ip

Configuring the MLS Switch Engine

Configuring the MLS−SE (Catalyst 5000 and 6000) for MLS involves the following tasks:

Re−enabling MLS

Enabling aging timers

Configuring the MLS Management Interface

Let’s examine each of these tasks, as well as how to disable each of these features in case they are no longer needed on an interface.

Re−enabling MLS on a Catalyst 6000

By default, MLS is enabled on all Catalyst switches that support Layer 3 switching. To re−enable MLS on a Catalyst 6000, perform the following tasks:

1. Enter Interface Configuration mode for the VLAN interface. This example uses VLAN 11:

CAT6000(config)interface vlan 11

2. Enter the mls ip command to re−enable MLS on the VLAN interface:

CAT6000(config)mls ip
