Additional configuration and management tools

The rest of this chapter includes information about other network configurations that you can use to attach your HP LaserJet 1200 or 1220 series product to a network.

Using BOOTP

This section describes how to configure the print server using

Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP) services on servers in some

operating systems. You use BOOTP to download network

configuration data from a server to the HP JetDirect print server

over the network.

Note

On Windows NT and 2000 server systems, use the Microsoft DHCP

utilities to set up HP JetDirect configuration via BOOTP. See Using

DHCP for more information.

Benefits of using BOOTP

Using BOOTP to download configuration data provides the following benefits:

Enhanced configuration control of the HP JetDirect print server. If you use other methods, such as the printer control panel, the configuration is limited to select parameters.

Ease of configuration management. You can have the network configuration parameters for the entire network in one location.

Ease of HP JetDirect print server configuration. You can automatically download complete network configuration information each time you turn the print server on.

The factory default for the HP JetDirect print server is to operate through BOOTP.
