RC3000 Antenna Controller | Chapter 3 | Detailed Operation |
INIT
LAT/LON:*INITIALIZING GPS*
GETTING LAT/LON FROM GPS
The LAT/LON: field initially displays the status of communications with the GPS receiver. The following messages may be displayed:
“*INITIALIZING GPS*” – The RC3000 is establishing communications with the GPS receiver.
“*NO GPS NAV*” – Communications with the GPS is proceeding but the GPS reports has not yet calculated a valid navigation solution. This typically indicates one of two situations:
1)The GPS receiver has not been powered on long enough to have “acquired” enough satellites to form a solution. Typically the GPS receiver will acquire the required number of satellites within several minutes from powerup.
2)The GPS receiver’s view of the sky is obstructed such that it cannot “see” enough GPS satellites to form a solution.
“*GPS OFFLINE*” – This message indicates that the RC3000 has not established communication with the GPS receiver. The cabling between the RC3000 and the GPS should be checked.
After obtaining latitude and longitude, the INIT mode waits 10 seconds before pulling in magnetic heading from the compass. During this time the bottom line will flash “GETTING HEADING”. The 10 second delay is to ensure that the compass has settled following any previous platform movement.
| INIT |
LAT/LON:38°56N 94°45W | FLUX HDG:215.2 |
MAG VAR: 3.9 | |
| TRUE HDG:219.1 |
The INIT mode calculates magnetic variation and applies it to the magnetic heading to derive true heading.
Following successful initialization of latitude, longitude and true heading the INIT mode will display a “POSITION INITIALIZED” message for two seconds then return to the CALCULATE mode.
