Figure 1-9 illustrates the following events:

zThe OSS sends X.25 calls through an X.25 packet network (over an X.25 trunk) to AI296.

zAI296 makes call routing decisions based on the AI198 routing alias.

zAI296 sends local X.25 calls directly to its attached NEs. X.25 NEs are connected to the OSS with a single X.25 trunk.

zAI296 converts local X.25 calls to TCP/IP calls and sends them over the IRB to a remote AI296.

zThe remote AI296 sends remote X.25 calls directly to its attached network elements.
