Windows 7 for You: Works the Way You Want

Better Troubleshooting and Problem Solving

Startup Repair

Startup problems can be difficult to troubleshoot, because if you can’t start the operating system you can’t use the built-in troubleshooting tools. In the past, you or your support professionals may have found it easier to reinstall your operating system than troubleshoot, even though the solution may be as simple as replacing a single file. And although Windows Vista provides an automated Startup Repair tool to diagnose and recover unbootable systems, the tool requires extra steps if the operating system is on a different partition.

Windows 7 automatically installs the Startup Repair tool onto the operating system partition, so you’ll always have access to it. After an unsuccessful boot, Windows 7 automatically loads Startup Repair, which scans your PC for issues (such as corrupt registry and system files or an invalid Boot Configuration Data- base), automatically repairs files when possible, and then reboots as normal.
