Web Slices

E-mail, weather, sports scores, stock quotes, or auction item status—there are Web sites we visit multiple times during the day to get updates. Web Slices in Internet Explorer 8 make it simple to access this information without having to navigate to the Web site again and again. Web site owners can now mark parts of their pages as Web Slices. See something you want to track? Just click on the Web Slice icon that appears next a block of content when you pause on it, and you’ll get the option to add it to your Favorites Bar. Alternatively, you can click Get More Add-onsto add Web Slices.

Accelerators

Do you spend a lot of time copying information from one Web page, pasting it into another, viewing the results—and then returning to the original page to pick up where you left off? With Internet Explorer 8, you won’t have to do this any longer; Accelerators in Internet Explorer 8 make the process of accessing online services easy. Just select some text and right-click to select an Accelerator and get the results instantly.

For example, let’s say you’ve just read a review of a great new restaurant and want to see its loca- tion. In the past, you would have had to copy the address, navigate to a mapping service, and paste the address into the address field. With the Accelerator called Map with Bing, you can high- light the address and then see your map overlaid on the page you’re currently on.

Internet Explorer 8 includes a number of useful Accelerators from Microsoft that cover search, mapping, word definitions, translation, blogging and e-mail. But you can easily find and use Accelerators from other providers too using the Find More Accelerators option on the Accelerators menu. For example, eBay, Yahoo!, Facebook, ESPN, Photobucket, and TinyPic all offer Accelerators that make it easier for you to interact with their Web sites and services.
