Install the NI-Serial SoftwareInstallthe NI-Serial software for Windows NT before you install the
hardware.Make sure that you have already installed the PnP ISA Enabler
driveras described in the previous section.
1. LogonasAdministratoror as a user wh o has Administrator
privileges.
2. Select Start»Settings»Control Panel.
3. Double-clickon the Add/Remove Programs icon in the Control Panel
to launch the Add/RemovePrograms applet . The Add/Remove
Programs dialog box appears.
4. ClickontheInstallbutton.
5. When prompted, insert the NI-Serial Software for Windows
2000/NT/Me/9x CD and click on the Nextbutton to proceed.
The software installation wizard begins.
The setup wizard guides you through the necessary steps to install
the NI-Serial software.You can go back and change values where
appropriate byclicki ng on the Back button.You can exit the setup
whereap propriate byclickin g on the Cancel button.
Note Thisinstallati on backs up the MicrosoftWindows NT serial driver serial.sys to
serial.bakandthenoverwritesserial.sys.You can find serial.sys in the
WindowsNT.....\system32\drivers directory.
The software installation is complete. Proceed to the next section, Install
the Serial Hardware.
Install the Serial HardwareThis sectiond escribes how to install your AT serial board.
Note If you are installing an AT-485,you might need to adjust the value of the bias
resistors, depending on your application. For more information, refer to Appendix B,
Serial Port Information.
Caution Electrostaticdischarge can damage several components on your board. To avoid
such damage in handling the board, touch the antistatic plastic package to a metal part of
your computer chassis before removing the board from the package.
