9. Windows2000 should automatically detect your hardware and display
the FoundNew Hardware Wizard. Complete the wizard by clicking
Nextin each window and then Finish. When you complete the wizard,
continueto the Verify the Installatio n section.
Ifthe FoundNew Hardware Wizard does not appear, refer to the
Forcing Windows to Detect Your Hardware section in Appendix D,
Troubleshooting and Common Questions.
Install the Hardware
Note Ifyou are installing a AT-485,you might need to adjust the value of the bias resistors,
depending on your application. For more information, refer to Appendix B, Serial Port
Information.
Caution Before you removeyour board from the package, touch the antistatic plasti c
packageto a metal part of your system chassis to discharge electrostatic energy, which can
damage severalcomponents on your serial board.
To install your AT serial board, complete the following steps:
1. Turnoff your computer. Keep the computer plugged in so that it
remains grounded while you install the ATserial board.
2. Removethe top or side cover of the computer.
3. Find an unused ATexpansion slot in your computer.
4. Removethe corresponding expansion slot cover on the back panel of
the computer.
5. Toucha metal part on your chassis to discharge any static electricity.
6. Insertthe AT serial board into the slot with the serial connectors toward
theopening on t heback panel.Make sure that you insert the board all
theway into the slot. The board might seem to click firmly into place,
eventhough it is only part of the way in. Figure 5-1 shows how to
install the ATserial board into an expansion slot.
