2-2 Setting Up the System

This chapt er pr ovides basic i nformation for setting up a n d using your
system (refer to the Qui ck Setup poster for details) . Included are cable
connections, system st ar tup procedures, system s h u t down procedures, and
system care. The chapt er a l so includes a table showin g wh er e t o find
additional information about your system.
Cable Connections
After unpacking the system (save the carton) and positioning the system
in your work area, connect the system components us in g th e Quick Setup
poster and the following tips.
Use the icons on the rear an d side of the system unit to id ent i fy the
USB, keyboard, mouse, LAN, printer, monitor, power, and audio
connectors.
See your networ k administr ator for gui d elines on con fi guring the
LAN.
Connect the system AC ada pt er power cord to a surge protect or
(recommended) or a prop er l y grounded wall outlet an d t o th e DC
power connector at the r ear of the system unit.
NECC recomm ends connecti ng the AC adapt er
power cord to a surge protec tor to protec t y our system.
Startup
Press the power button to turn on the system unit and LCD panel. The
power lamp lights green t o indicate that the system i s on. Th e system
performs its Power-On Self-Test (POST) and several messages appear on
the screen indicatin g that the system is checkin g its subsystems.
Note
At the bottom of the NEC start up screen, th e following m essage
appears: Press F2 to enter BIOS Setup. If you want to enter the BIOS
Setup Utilit y, immediat el y press F2 while t he startup scr een displays . (See
Chapter 3, “Configuring the System,” for information on using the BIOS
Setup.)
After a short delay, Win dows starts up.
