If a problem occu rs, a serie s of be eps might sou nd. If this ha ppens
repeatedly after powering on, power off the system and go to Chapter 5,
“Solving Syst em Problems . ” The chapter provides help ful hints for
solving system problems.
If the system displays a message indicating that system settings have
changed, run the BIOS Setup Utility (see Chapter 3, “Configuring the
System”).
On systems loaded with th e Win d ows N T ® 4.0 or Windows 2000
operating system, pr ess Ctrl Alt Del when prompt e d on-screen t o d o so.
The log-on box a ppears for en tering a pass wor d.
Shutdown
Follow these steps to power off the system.
To prevent dam age to system c omponents, wake
a system in sleep mode, save an d close any open a pplication s , exit
Windows, and power down the system.
1. If the system is in sleep mode (sleep mode lamp amber), move the
mouse or press a key to take it ou t of sleep mode (see “Power Savin g
Operation” in the next s ect ion).
2. Save and exit a l l your open appl i cations.
3. Make sure that the hard dri ve, diskette drive, and an y other drives are
not in use. A lit device lam p in dicates that the device is in u s e.
Wait until all open applications are saved and
closed bef or e using the Wi n dows shut dow n pr ocedure in st ep 4.
Unless absolutely necessary, never power off the system if the system
sleep lamp i s am ber, if eith er the hard dri ve lamp, disk ette drive, o r other
device lamp is flashing, or if any applications are open. Information on the
device might be lost or damaged.
