Moving or Shipping Your System
Use these steps to prepar e the system for moving or shi pping.
1. Back up your files on the hard drive to diskettes, server hard drive, or
other backup devices.
Take precautions for s t oring and transportin g st or age media so that
they are not exposed to ma gnetic fields or electri cal impulses.
2. Remove any di s kette from th e diskette dri ve. If you have a C D in the
drive, remove the CD.
3. Remove any PC cards from the car d slots on the left side of your
system unit. Instal l th e slot covers.
4. Wake up a system in sleep mode, save and close any open
applications, shut d own Windows, and turn off the system unit and
any external option s conn ected to it.
5. Unplug the system AC ada pt er power cord from the wall out l et or
surge suppressor and th e A C a da p ter from the system unit.
6. Unplug any ext ernal option s from the wall ou tlets or sur g e
suppressor, then disconnect them from the system unit.
7. Pack the system componen ts in the original shipp in g materials and
cartons. If these are n ot available, be sure to use ad eq u at e packing
materials to protect the components.
Note
Be sure to save the original shipping materials in the unlikely
event that you need to ship the system back for repair.
