Voice Search & Voice Actions
You can initiate a Voice search or Voi ce Action in severa l ways:
• Touch the Microphone icon in the Google Chrome omnibox.
• Touch the Microphone icon on the H ome screen or Goog le
Now screen and speak.
• Touch the search bar on the Home sc reen and say “Goo gle”.
• When you’re viewing the Go ogle Now screen , you don’t have to
touch anything. Just say “Google.”
Next, speak the terms to sea rch for or the Voice Action to per -
form. For more details on Voi ce Actions, see “u se Voice Actions”
on page 37.
The ability to trigger a s earch or action by saying “Goog le” is
called hotword detection. To turn it off or on, sta rt from the
Google Now screen and touc h Menu > Setting s > Voice > Hotword
detection.
IMPorTAnT: To detect when you say “Google ” to launch
Voice search or Voice Action s, Google analyzes sound
picked up by your tablet’s m icrophone in inte rvals of a few
seconds or less. The sou nd is immediately d iscarded after
analysis and is not stored on t he device or sent to G oogle.

Type your query in the search b ox on the Home or Google Now
screen, or in Google Chrome’s omnibox.
