The COMPAQ personal computer uses a memory device that stores the current date, time, and system configuration. The SETUP program, in- cluded on both the ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS and USER DIAGNOSTICS diskettes, enters this information into the memory device.

3.1 WHEN TO RUN SETUP

You need to run SETUP:

When the COMPAQ personal computer is used for the first time.

When the system configuration is changed.

When certain options are added to the system including:

Coprocessor

Diskette drive

Fixed disk drive

Memory

Internal Modem

If the system board or battery is discon- nected or replaced.

If a system configuration error is detected during POST. In this situation, the system prompts you to run SETUP so that you can enter the correct information before continuing.
