Application Examples

The DSU/CSU acts as an interface between the T1
digital network and the customer’s equipment.
The DSU/CSU is connected to the customer’s
equipment through one of the synchronous data ports
(PORTs 1–4) or the DTE Drop/Insert (DSX-1) interface.
It is connected to the T1 digital network through the
network interface.
NOTE
The DTE Drop/Insert (DSX-1)
interface is only available on
2-port and 4-port DSU/CSUs.
Some common applications for the DSU/CSU are:
•Point-to-Point LAN interconnection (Figure 2-1).
•Shared access to network-based services
(Figure 2-2).
•Fractional T1 network applications (Figure 2-3).
