Determining the required motor torque

The frictional torque characteristic can be determined on the basis of the speed characteristic. The totals formula can then be used to create the motor torque-time diagram (see diagram below) from which the required peak torque MmMAX can be read directly.

In addition to the peak torque MmMAX, the required continuous torque Meff of the motor is also a crucial factor in determining how the motor is dimensioned. The continuous torque Meff responsible for the temperature rise in the motor can be derived from the motor torque-time diagram by means of quadratic averaging and must not exceed the rated torque MN.
