Connecting the Serial Interface Cable

To connect your MFC to your computer, you must use a serial interface cable with an 8-pin,DIN-typeconnector.

Seeyourdealertopurchaseaserialinterfacecable:

IfyouareaMacintoshuser,youcaneasilyfindthenecessarycableatalocalcomputer store.LookforAppleserialcableslabeled“MacintoshtoImageWriter™”or“Macintosh toPersonalLaserWriter™300”.Donotpurchaseaserialcablelabeled“Straight-thru”or “Local-Talk.”

IfyouareaPCuser,youmustpurchaseaspecialserialcablefromyourdealer.Ifyouhave a9-pinconnectoronyourcomputer,lookforacablelabeled“IBMATtoImageWriterII”. Ifyouhavea25-pinconnector,lookforacablelabeled“DB25toImageWriterII.”These cablesmostlikelycanbefoundintheAppleMacintoshsectionofyourcomputerdealer’s store.Formoreinformationabouttheinterfacespecification,consultwithyourdealer.

NOTE: The MFC can be connected to a parallel and a serial interface cable at the sametime.TheautointerfaceselectionfunctionallowsyoutosharetheMFC withtwocomputers.Todothis,firstconnecttheparallelinterfacecableand thenconnecttheserialinterfacecable.

Connecttheserialinterfacecableasfollows:

1. Make sure the power switch is turned off.

Warning

Unplugthepowercordbeforeconnectingordisconnectingtheinterfacecablesoryoumay damage the MFC.

2.Insertandsecuretheserialinterfaceconnectorintotheserialinterfaceportofyour MFC.

3.Insertandsecuretheserialinterfaceconnectorintotheserialinterfaceportofyour computer.

4.Turn on the power switch.
