3.1 FONTTERMINOLOGY
3.1.1 Typefacesandfonts
First,afew definitions.Atyp~aceis afamilyof charactemwiththe same
basicdesign.Theartisticcharacterdesignyouchooseestablishesthe“tone
ofvoice” forall yourdocuments.
Several variables can characterizetypefaces, including weight (light,
medium,bold),width(condensedorextended),andstyle(uprightoritalic).

Withthe Star LaserPrinter4youcan havedifferentstrokeweights intwo
ways,depending on whichemulationyou are using. You can have two
differentfonts,storingandswitchingbetweenaboldandamediumversion
ofthe font.Oryou canusejust onefontand setboldon andoff withEscape
sequences.Thelatterway usesjust half asmuch fontmemory.
